Four of my recent color images will be featured at Signs of Life Gallery in Lawrence. The show opens on January 23rd with a public reception for the artists from 7-10pm. These images are 30″ x 40″ inches and are priced to sell. I very rarely show any of my color work so this is a unique opportunity to see these in-person.
I hope to see you there!

Portrait of Dan Coburn by Mack Schroer.
My friend Mack Schroer, is graduating from Washburn this semester and moving off to Seattle. He landed a job working for a major video game developer. Before he left, I commissioned him to complete this portrait of me. I thought it was a cool opportunity to support a recent graduate, and also get some artwork that I could use on my website etc. I think he did a great job, and I’m sure he will have a very bright future.
The portrait was rendered from life in charcoal, white conte, india ink, and acrylic.

Above photograph: “The Ascent” by Daniel W. Coburn – Salted Paper Print
My photograph entitled “The Ascent” was recently chosen by juror Keith Carter for inclusion in the Texas Photographic Society Members Only Show. Don’t let the name fool you… TPS is one of the largest and most active photography organizations in the United States. Some of the worlds leading contemporary photographers are members. It’s fantastic to be recognized by someone like Keith Carter, whose work I have admired for a long time. Carter is an internationally recognized photographer and educator. 8 monographs of his black and white photographs have been published.
1,077 images were entered and 56 were chosen for the exhibition. I am honored to be part of this exhibit.
This print was made using the salted paper process. The paper is coated in a salt solution and then a light sensitive chemical (silver nitrate) is applied. This is a contact print that was exposed using sunlight.
