Selections from Daniel Coburn’s “Next of Kin” series will be on display in an upcoming exhibition at the Center for Contemporary Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
This exhibit features work by The University of New Mexico photography graduate students.
A UNM Graduate Student Exhibition | November 11th thru December 11th In the Spector Ripps Project Space
Truth Defined, an exhibition comprised of photo based works, runs simultaneously with the Society for Photographic Education Southwest Regional Conference held at The School of Arts and Design at Santa Fe Community College. The exhibit is designed as a supplement to the panel discussion, How Photography Fails Us, lead by current UNM graduate students in support of this year’s conference theme Photographic Truths and Other Illusions. The panel discussion and exhibit are executed to challenge the role of the photograph as a vessel for truth. Although distinctly different, each of these artists’ work hones in on similar themes, primarily the human tendency to perceive the photograph as reality while failing to recognize the subjective nature of the lens. Photographs by The University of New Mexico MFA candidates Stephanie Brunia, Daniel Coburn, Rachel Cox, Lauren Greenwald, Jamie Kovach and Colby Sempek.
