Daniel W. Coburn will celebrate the opening of his solo exhibition, Domestic Reliquary, at 5G Gallery on Friday February 8th. The public is invited to attend a reception for the artists at the gallery from 5-8pm. The exhibit will be on view until Tuesday February 26th.
Domestic Reliquary explores concepts related to gender, the loss of innocence, and the tragedies that occur within a family unit living under the ideals of the American dream. Coburn uses antiquated photographic processes to reprint a series of found images that represent a supplement to the family album. He correlates domestic to religious symbolism, reinterpreting objects and icons to create his own sacred visual vocabulary. This exhibition and installation is designed to reference the intersection of a family home, religious sanctuary, and museum space.
