I started this body of work as a simple observer and a witness to the awesome power and beauty of nature. As my work progressed I began to focus on the impact of a human presence. I began to study areas that were once occupied and then abandoned. I began to study areas that only saw an occassional visitor and were protected from human influence. The majority of these images were captured in Missouri, Kansas , and Arkansas.I concentrate on contrast, lighting, and form_searching for the scene that truly lends itself to the black and white media.

Mr. Coburn,
First saw your work at Artworks here in Wichita; simply inspired. Photography is just a hobby, wish it I could pursue it more. Where do you get your ideas on where to go shoot? Keep up the great work!

Thanks Joshua. I spend a lot of time on the road scouting new locations, driving mostly through rural areas on the fringe of a town or city. I hope you continue to enjoy your photography. All the best, Dan.

Hi Dan, always a pleasure to view work from someone else who understands that the sky is more than just a backdrop! Look forward to returning to your site soon

Thanks for the reply. Any suggestions on a camera. There are so many choices it gets confusing. I still use my mom’s old Yashica from her college days. The pictures turn out great, but I want to upgrade to digital. I would like something something that would be practical in a variety of situations, good quality, and around 700 dollars. Again your work is awesome.

I absolutely LOVE your work!! I am also stuck in the midwest, but have found I can find more than I thought was out here, and after seeing your shots, now I am convinced!! Did you pay big money for your own website? AND to have it done? I am trying to get myself started, and have no idea where to start? do you have your stuff in any galleries? It is my dream to do this for a full time career, a true passion for photography!! I hope you check out my work, and let me know what you think!! Thanks, Michelle Spaulding
